Eris (goddess of strife and conflict) is an exploration of tension between the natural and built environments, and a search for the beauty that is derived from the struggle for survival and dominance. On one side, a carefully crafted form seeks to shelter and protect its inhabitants from the harsh environment outside. On the other, cracks in the shelter give way to growing life that thrives in that same environment. The oscillation of dominance can be unsettling at first. Once the dance is recognized though, the sculpture beckons us to embrace harmony and coexistence, recognizing that true beauty lies in the symbiotic relationship between nature and humanity.
